State of the Union: Rhetorical Device Bingo

Rhetorical Devices , Just For Fun , Significant Speeches

"Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old' when I would never call him 'short and fat?'"

– Donald Trump using the rhetorical device paralipsis in a Tweet

Of course, people have been playing State of the Union Bingo for a while. But just for fun, we thought we'd attempt a twist--with some Rhetorical Device Bingo--perfect, really for any speech.

Because we've noticed that Donald Trump has a fondness for a few of these, we've loaded our card with paralipsis, hyperbole, and dysphemism. But hey, maybe you'll even catch an example of chiasmus. Who knows?

Here's a PDF you can print (go to page 3), if you care to play along. And if you want to scroll through our articles about the various rhetorical devices on the card, this link will help you do that.

And here's a link to The Washington Post's version, in case you want to play like a pro and have more than one card going at a time.
